Practical Applications of Digital Radiology in Dental Practice Friday, March 1, 2019 Course Summary: Advances in digital radiological imaging have created an ideal opportunity to simplify the diagnostic and treatment planning process, and to improve clinical outcomes. Dental treatment in the new millennium has progressed to a higher level because of new technology and systems. But, what system is right for you? The challenge for any dentist is to understand the clinical problems and to determine the proper method of treatment. This course is designed to provide the practitioner with the latest in practical applications of digital radiology, with a special emphasis on what works and what systems are currently available. This course will primarily be a lecture course however small group discussions will provide additional interest and learning. Course Topics and Objectives: - History and basic features of digital radiology systems · Radiology of caries, periodontal and periapical disease · Two dimensional and three dimensional digital imaging · Vendor review of digital radiology software programs · How to capture images, display and use them effectively · Problem-solving & clinical applications · Future developments in digital radiology Course Presenter: Dr. Nair is a tenured Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology at the Texas A&M College of Dentistry, and Director of the Imaging Center. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and currently serves as the Program Director of the OMFR graduate program. He is fellowship-trained in medical Radiology Informatics from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Nair underwent graduate training in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, and earned an additional Master’s and PhD from Goteborg University, Sweden in Radiology. He holds memberships in numerous organizations such as the Radiological Society of North America, Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine, American College of Radiology, American Society of Head and Neck Radiology, ADA, AAOMR, AADR/IADR, and the European Society of Radiology, among other organizations. Dr. Nair co-chaired the national joint expert panel of the AAE and the AAOMR that developed a position paper on the use of Cone Beam CT in Endodontics. His research interests include 3D imaging, image processing/analyses, radiology informatics, teleradiology, digital radiography, and computer aided diagnostic techniques. He has lectured and published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. He has served as chair of numerous national level committees, and special emphasis panels of the NIH. Course Information: Date: Friday, March 1, 2019 Time: 8:00 am - 8:30 am – Registration 8:30 am - 4:30 pm – Presentation Location: Texas A&M College of Dentistry Health Science Center, 6th Floor Credit: 7 hours lecture and small group discussion Course Pre-requisites: It is recommended that the attendee have experience with digital radiology however the dentist and staff initially implementing digital radiology in the dental practice is invited to attend. Recommended for dentists, specialists, dental assistants, and dental hygienists. This course is designated for CDE credits and is not promotional in any way.
