Mindful Self-Compassion for Teens and Adolescents
Denette Mann, LPC-S, will be presenting Mindful Self- Compassion for Teens and Adolescents. This will be an introduction on the what and how of both mindfulness and self-compassion. There will be experiential exercises, a meditation, videos,and a focus on how mindfulness and self-compassion change the brain, and the benefits that result from learning these skills. She will also focus specifically on how these skills are taught to the teenage and young adult population through the program 'Making Friends With Yourself' taken from the Mindful Self-Compassion course developed by Dr. Kristin Neff and Dr. Christopher Germer. The research that has been done to demonstrate the efficacy of the program will also be presented. About the Speaker Denette Mann, Certified Trainer in Mindful Self-Compassion, LPC-S Denette Mann is a Licensed Professional Counselor - Supervisor and a Registered Play Therapist. She is also certified in EMDR. This is her second career after being in business for 10 years and having her first child. She received her training at the prestigious counseling program at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.She resides and practices counseling in Dallas, serving children, teens, adults and families. Occasionally in her practice, DM Psychotherapy Services, she is accompanied by two therapy dogs a miniature poodle, 'Bailey' and a maltipoo, 'Shaq.' In 2013, Denette attended a week-long workshop on Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in New York from Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn and Dr. Saki Santorelli. The following year she attended a workshop on the next level, a week-long training in Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) from Dr. Kristin Neff and Dr. Christopher Germer in California. This course has changed her life and the trajectory of her career in important ways. She followed that with the intensive teacher training for MSC, became a teacher and went on to become a Certified MSC teacher. She both trains and presents on MSC and has a passion for both. We are happy to offer social work and counseling CEUs. Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? No minimum age and you do not have to provide your ID to gain entrance. What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? Parking is free and provided around the front of the Gladney Center for Adoption. What can I bring into the event? Feel free to bring pen, paper or an electronic device to take notes on. You are welcome to bring in drinks, however we do not allow red liquids in our event space. Light refreshments will be provided. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? Not necessarily! If you have your mobile ticket on your device, that will suffice!
